3 Steps To Overcoming Entrepreneurial Frustration and Overwhelm

I had to restrain myself from throwing my computer across a coffee shop yesterday… I felt frustrated!

As entrepreneurs, frustration can get the better of all of us!

Thankfully, I didn't carry out that action (probably would have ended up pretty badly lol), because I took 3 specific action steps.

Steps I've learned over the past 4 years. Steps that WORK.

3 Steps To Overcoming Entrepreneurial Frustration and Overwhelm

Frustration doesn't serve you. It merely sucks your energy and distracts you, which can steal a lot of time.frustration

So what can you do?

Before I dive into the 3 steps, realize that feeling frustration as an entrepreneur is NOT the issue.  It is the way we REACT to those feelings that is important.

These steps will help you, but at the end of the day the decision is yours… will you try to find a solution. Or will you join the many who give in… and quit?

Step 1 Take a Break!

Whatever helps you: Go for a walk, shut your eyes, get a tea or a coffee…. whatever it is, make sure you completely remove yourself from the situation. Even if just for 10 minutes.

Taking a break allows your mind to be clearer once you go back to tackle the problem again.

The main thing is to give yourself a little time to clear your head and shift your focus away from the frustration.

Step 2 Dive Right Back Into Action!

It is absolutely crucial that you dive right back in and take positive action. The worst thing you can do at this point is to use that break as an excuse to procrastinate. Don't keep putting off actually facing whatever caused the frustration.

The tendency when we face a problem, is to not want to work on it any more. As human beings we are fantastic at developing avoidance tactics!

However, you need to take action and start to take steps forwards.

"Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up" ~ Thomas Edison

That saying can be applied to even the smallest of tasks.

One possible action is to write down your options… the are ALWAYS options.  Just knowing you have options will help you to feel better. From your list, figure out the best direction, and go for it!

Step 3 What If You Didn't Resolve Your Issue?!

OK so, from your list of options you've decided to reach out to support, or do a search for an answer on YouTube or Google, or call a friend… you've dived back in.

But your issue has not been resolved. What then?

That is when you need to put things into perspective. Start to see it from the future. Identify a related situation you've encountered and yet succeeded in the past.

Remind yourself “this too shall pass”. Whatever the issue is, 1 week, month or even 1 year from now… will your problem be as big as it is now?

Putting your frustration in a larger context can help. A lot of times you get stuck on focusing on what you don't want to happen.

And Finally…

If all else fails… sleep on it!

Most of your unconscious life happens while you're asleep. Try to go to bed with a clear thought of resolution.

Don't try to find a solution, just prepare yourself for getting out of that frustrating circle. During the night, your unconscious mind will find resources to make you stronger.
