Stop Wasting Time! 5 Steps To A More Productive and Profitable Day

Do you ever find yourself running menial tasks, like buying office supplies or doing laundry when you KNOW you'd be better spending that time on activities with the potential to earn your business money?

I know I'm guilty of this sometimes!

As entrepreneurs we're extremely prone to rationalize,”I can do it myself.” Then we spend six hours trying to extract a virus from our computer!

While we ARE able to do all those tasks – you need to ask yourself “Is it really worth wasting your time doing a job which we could pay someone $10 per hour to do?”

While at the same time releasing ourselves to do what every entrepreneur aims to do… earn the big bucks?

Activities such as sending the right email to the right person, optimizing ads, or talking to a prospect on the phone.

What I've learned over the past year or so (and still tend to forget when I see toys left in the living room by my 6 year old girls!) Is that the worst enemy of the entrepreneur is mixing ‘busy work' with ‘work that actually pays the bills'.

So here are my:

5 Steps You Can Immediately Take To Stop Wasting Time and Start Earning The Big Bucks!

Step 1

Pay for a cleaner. Stop wasting your time doing cleaning tasks!  Enough said.

Step 2

Out source your menial business-related tasks.  Before you again try to rationalise this with “but I don't have enough money to pay to outsource” There are website on which you can pay $5 for such tasks!

So, stop wasting your time creating your own graphics or editing your own videos when you can outsource those tasks for very little money using a site such as Fiverr.com or finding someone inexpensive, but effective on Upwork.com

Step 3

Once you start to earn a little more, consider hiring a personal assistant.  I know some entrepreneurs who have actually hired their children! Before you jump on me about ‘child labour' my friends have told me their kids LOVE it! So this can be a win/win – you pay them to do some simple tasks such as creating graphics – and they love having the extra pocket money to spend 🙂

Or head to a site such as Upwork.com and hire a virtual assistant.

Step 4

Learn to relax a little!  The most productive people give themselves much needed breaks!  Look after yourself, eat well, exercise and take breaks.

Step 5

Focus on your most productive time slot. Everybody has a timeslot in their day when they do their finest work. Ernest Hemingway wrote first thing in the morning.  I do my best work between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m.  before getting my kids ready for school and then again between 9a.m. and 11 a.m.

I don't do email before 11 a.m. I keep that space open. It's reserved for writing or doing more strategic jobs. That's the part of my day when I'm most productive.

Make these changes and you'll you reap the true rewards of being an entrepreneur.

When it comes to self-organization and saving time, it takes a mom with kids to know what she’s talking about. I read a study somewhere that women—especially mothers—are more productive than men because they have to be organized to run their homes.

I particularly like Angel’s fifth step about working when you’re most productive. I also do writing and other creative tasks early morning.

Angela’s advice has been most helpful to me.
